AGM Update & New Season Preparations

Steve Bird4 Aug 2024 - 11:07

At their recent AGM, the theme was continuity as Avon RFC prepare for the new rugby season.

The main off-field positions of President, Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer are once again filled by Tony Mutlow (15 years), Ian Monochino-Ayres (9) and Paul Kirby (13).

Likewise on the playing front, stability again follows with Clive Book as Director of Rugby (28 years), Kai Harwood as Head Coach (9), Kane Book continuing as Club Captain (6) and Ben Hurd as 2nds Captain (4). There are however some newcomers to the coaching set up as Rob Fitch and Damien Sawyer join the team as player/coaches.

In a couple of other changes Sarah Goodwin-Drew formally takes up the position of Clubhouse Manager, whilst Steve Bird assumes an additional new role as Centenary Planning lead in preparation for Avon’s forthcoming 100 year anniversary in the 2025-26 season.

Pre-season training is now underway at Avon’s Hicks Field ground off the London Road at Batheaston on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from 7pm onwards. Last season Avon finished their campaign in a creditable 3rd place in Somerset Counties 2 and will warmly welcome any new players seeking to play league rugby in a friendly environment. Equally any players interested in playing social rugby are also encouraged to sample the Avon hospitality with the 2nd team holding a series of friendly matches throughout the season.

The Minis & Juniors section meanwhile will resume their season with sessions on Sunday mornings from early September onwards. Any youngsters and parents will be made most welcome at Hicks Field under expert qualified coaches.
